    Michelle SanbornPresident

    michelle@childrensallianceky.orgMichelle Sanborn has spent her career advocating for children and families in need. Ms. Sanborn joined the Children’s Alliance in April 2006, where she successfully led Children’s Alliance advocacy efforts as the Director of Public Policy. Prior to joining the Children’s Alliance, she served as the Director of the Division of Protection and Permanency for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. There she was charged with providing leadership to ensure the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable adults. In addition to her leadership and advocacy experience, Ms. Sanborn has years of experience working directly with children and families. She has previously served as the Director of the Home of the Innocents’ Therapeutic Loving foster Care program and also held several positions with the Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children Metro Region Foster Care program. Along with her foster care experience, she has worked at the Wellspring House and the City of Louisville’s Youth Alliance where her passion for advocacy and speaking out for Kentucky’s most vulnerable citizens originated.

    Melissa MuseDirector of Member Services

    melissa@childrensallianceky.orgA dedicated advocate for children and families, Melissa has over 20 years of experience with the Children’s Alliance. Shortly after graduating Georgetown College with a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Psychology and Sociology, Melissa joined the Children’s Alliance staff as an Office Assistant. Her passion for creating positive system change for Kentucky’s children and families ignited and grew quickly, as a result, her role at the Children’s Alliance expanded into more direct involvement with the members. Melissa and her husband Darby live in Williamstown with their two daughters, Katlin and Kaylee. The family is actively involved in the Children’s Ministry at Lawrenceville Baptist Church. Melissa enjoys spending time making memories with her immediate and extended family, photography, and quilting.

    Kathy AdamsDirector of Public Policy

    kathy@childrensallianceky.orgKathy Adams has served as the Director of Public Policy for the Children’s Alliance since 12/1/11. Kathy’s work history includes service with the federal government, the private sector and several cabinets within Kentucky state government, including eleven years with the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS). Kathy retired from public service with the CHFS Department for Community Based Services in 2008, where she served as the liaison to Kentucky’s private child caring agencies for more than seven years as Assistant Director Division of Protection and Permanency. In leading the Children’s Alliance’s Public Policy efforts, Kathy possesses an intricate knowledge of Kentucky’s child welfare system and has extensive experience in program administration, public agency management and advocacy. Following her retirement from public service Kathy served as the Director of Care Management for a private child welfare agency and as a consultant with the Children’s Alliance. Kathy is an honor graduate from the University of Kentucky and lives in Lawrenceburg. She has two grown daughters, Ashlyn and Courtlyn.

    Mary SmitherOffice Assistant

    mary@childrensallianceky.orgMary has been in the field of Early Childhood Education for over 29 years where she was owner and Director of an Early Childhood Development and preschool Center. Her Center was licensed for 40 children ages 12 months through 5 years. Her center was the first, for profit center, to be on the Federal School Lunch Program and also the first to become actively involved in the Stars for Kids Now Program. Mary has always had a passion and love for the world's most precious resources, children. Her wish to continue her passion to help children motivated her to join the Children's Alliance team where she continues to better the lives of children through her work as an Office Assistant to the Children's Alliance.

    In addition to working part-time at Children's Alliance she volunteers at the Kentucky Horse Park, Franklin County Humane Society, and is the corresponding Secretary for the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Frankfort. Her hobbies include gardening, photography and art.
